Watch out for these 2024 video and marketing trends.

Keeping up with the ever-changing and always exciting video marketing industry.

By: Melt van der Spuy

Heading into 2024, there’s this unmistakable buzz in the air about the ever-changing landscape of video marketing. Keeping up with this industry is like watching Fight Club or Inglorious Basterds for the first time; you’re glued to your seat, eyes wide, eager yet unsure of what’s coming next. In a world where the only constant is change, navigating these waters hinges on more than just having a good strategy; it’s essential for survival and thriving amidst the dynamic tides of marketing.

With that in mind, let me walk through what I see as the key trends that are set to redefine our approach to video marketing in the year ahead. Buckle up and let’s get into it.

The Delicate Dance of Video Length

Short-form content continues to thrive

Punchy is powerful. Platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts have highlighted the compelling nature of short-form content. This format has proven to thrive on its ability to deliver impactful messages in a matter of seconds. As we move into 2024, this trend of delivering value-driven, entertaining bite-sized content is bound to expand across various platforms.

The impact of long-form content

Contrary to popular belief, long-form content isn’t fading away. There’s something about the depth and detail you can convey in a longer format that can’t be captured in a 60-second video. It represents the quality end of the content spectrum. Recent studies are pointing towards an increase in interest towards longer videos that provide depth and value to the viewer.  It’s like settling in for a gripping novel versus a quick blog. I really encourage brands to consider leveraging long-form content if their goal is to deepen their connection with their audience.

AI: Your Creative Sidekick

The creative catalyst

Think of AI as your assistant in the creative process, making video production processes faster and more efficient, and allowing creatives to focus on innovation and storytelling. It’s not replacing the artist; it’s giving them the best tools to better their work. AI is here to streamline, not to overtake.

A balanced act

Sure, AI is great, but it’s not the be-all and end-all. You still need to strike a perfect balance where AI aids our creativity, not overshadows the human connection that makes our content authentically resonate. With AI’s rise, there comes a potential influx of generic content. Brands must strive to use AI as a tool to enhance authenticity and originality in their content, rather than relying on it to do the creative heavy lifting.

The Shift Towards Value-Driven Content

An emphasis on value and authenticity

In 2024, it’s all about substance. In an economically tight environment, value becomes the ultimate currency. Every piece of content we put out there needs to offer something genuinely useful. We’re talking real engagement – something that sticks with the audience way after they’ve scrolled past.

Trust and authenticity: non-negotiables

Our audience is smart; they can spot a fake a mile away. So, our content needs to be genuine, relatable, and, above all, trustworthy. This is what will create a connection that lasts.

Emerging Platforms and Trends

The new opportunities that await

While YouTube continues to dominate, it’s important to keep our eyes peeled for new platforms making waves. New platforms and changes in existing ones like Vimeo might offer fresh opportunities for video marketers. That being said, these platforms will need to work very hard to compete with already established platforms and their extensive reach.

Interactive video elements

Think of interactive videos like a special spice – not needed in every dish but pivotal when used right. You need to find those specific scenarios where interactivity can truly elevate the experience. Take the real estate sector, for instance, where virtual 360-degree tours can completely revolutionise property showcases, offering potential buyers an immersive experience. Interactive video elements could very well provide your business with a distinctive edge in a competitive market.

Measuring Success: Beyond Views and Clicks

Engagement over views

It’s not just about who’s watching; it’s about who’s engaging. Engagement reflects viewership, but also the quality and impact of the content. We want our content to spark conversations, to encourage shares and discussions. That’s the real measure of success.

Tailored metrics for specific goals

Different videos serve different purposes. From brand awareness to lead generation, you need to align your metrics with your objectives. Each video must have its own objective so that you can measure its success based on the relevant metrics aligned with these goals.

Master Video Marketing in 2024

The landscape of video marketing is as lively and unpredictable as ever. From the creative possibilities with AI to the blatant demand for authenticity and value, our strategies need to be as flexible and forward-thinking as the trends themselves.

Let’s navigate these waters with confidence, ready to tell stories that not only captivate but also leave a lasting impression. Here’s to a year of innovative and impactful storytelling in the exciting world of video marketing!
